Konami has announced that the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship will return to an in-person format on August 5 and 6 in Tokyo. Alongside the traditional paper card game, the digital Master Duel version will make its debut on a global stage.
The event will be hosted at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre and will include three separate tournaments for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game (OCG), Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, and the first-ever Master Duel World Championship Series. This will be the first time since 2019 that the WCS will return to an in-person format due to the pandemic.

Konami will host WCS 2023 Qualifiers for all three tournaments, but the Master Duel format will be different from anything players have seen before. While the OCG and Duel Links tournaments will follow standard formats, the Master Duel WCS Finals will be in Team Battle format.
The schedule for the WCS 2023 Qualifiers for both titles is as follows:
- Yu-Gi-Oh! MASTER DUEL 1st Stage – 12:00, May 16 – 11:59, May 29 (UTC+8)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! MASTER DUEL Regional Qualifiers – 13:00, May 26 – 11:59, May 29 (UTC+8)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! DUEL LINKS 1st Stage – 15:30, May 30 – 12:59, June 12 (UTC+8)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! DUEL LINKS Regional Qualifiers – 13:00, June 9 – 12:59, June 12 (UTC+8)
A Team Battle means that each Master Duel player who qualifies for the World Championship Series as a regional representative or "Top Duelist" will bring two other players from their region to battle as a team of three. This will result in a tag-team situation where teams compete in a three-on-three matchup of three separate duels to determine who can win the most games in a best-of-one battle amongst all three players at the same time.
The final Qualifier (DUELIST CUP 2023) to determine the Asian representative Duelists for Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG WCS 2023 will be held in China on June 17 at the Flagship Store ”Duelist Land” in Shanghai and will be held in seven other Asian countries and regions on July 1 at the Raffles City Convention Centre in Singapore. The three qualifying Duelists from the eight Asian countries and regions will then be granted the right to participate in the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG WCS 2023.
The WCS 2023 Qualifiers for Master Duel will follow a similar two-stage format to the Duelist Cup. The initial run will take place from May 15 to May 28, while the real qualification stage will take place from May 25 to May 28. The final rankings will be announced on June 9. Duel Links will hold its own qualifications from May 30 to June 11, while the OCG will use the standard qualifying format.
