Who made Apex Legends? The free-to-play battle royale has taken the world by storm, racking up 1 million unique players in the first eight hours since its sudden release Monday afternoon. But who's responsible for the success?

Who Made Apex Legends?

Apex Legends was built by Respawn Entertainment, the game development studio responsible for Titanfall in 2014 and Titanfall 2 in 2016. The studio was created in 2010, when Activision fired Infinity Ward president Jason West and CEO and co-founder Vince Zampella. Within a few months, West and Zampella had formed a new studio with more than 30 of the Infinity Ward employees who left the studio after its two leaders left.

Respawn Entertainment's development pedigree in the Call of Duty series showed right away, as both Titanfall games were positively received by critics and players.

Electronic Arts acquired Respawn Entertainment in 2017 after publishing both Titanfall games, and is now publishing Apex Legends. The new battle royale game is the successor to the Titanfall series.

Apex Legends is available for download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on the Origin store. The game does not currently feature cross platform play, but Respawn is reportedly working on it for the near future.
