Who is Manny Machado's mother, Rosa Nunez? Meet remarkable woman who nurtured Padres star as a single parent

San Diego Padres All-Star third baseman and shortstop Manny Machado was born to Manuel Machado and Rosa Machado. However, Manny was raised single-handedly by his mother along with help from his maternal grandfather, Francisco Nunez, and his maternal uncle, Geovanny Brito.

Although Machado has Dominican ancestry, he was born and raised in Miami, Florida.

Growing up, Manny's maternal grandfather, Francisco Nunez, taught him the finesse of baseball.

The Baltimore Orioles picked him third overall in the 2010 MLB Draft. He played his first MLB game for the Orioles against the Kansas City Royals in 2012.

Manny Machado's maternal grandfather died before his MLB debut

San Diego Padres star Manny Machado's maternal grandfather, Francisco Nunez, has played a major role in helping the shortstop develop a love for America's favorite pastime - Baseball.

However, Nunez didn't live long to witness his endearing grandson make his MLB debut. Francisco left for his heavenly abode six months before the Baltimore Orioles picked Machado as the third overall pick in the 2010 draft.

Reminiscing about his grandfather's presence, Manny recalled the teachings he instilled in him.

“'Just stay in the game always.''Never forget the little things.'"

Manny added:

He taught me how to bunt. Always keep your eyes where they’re supposed to be. You’ve got to bunt to be a great hitter because it gets your eyes in the right position every time. That’s something, when I drop down a bunt, I think about him.”

Currently, Manny is playing in his 11th MLB season.

After playing for Baltimore Orioles (2012–2018), Machado was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in July 2018. Next, he signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with the San Diego Padres on February 21, 2019, and continues to excel with the team.
