To the 2.2 million people worldwide that Walmart already employs add 90 more – in Deerfield Beach.
The company announced in a press release today that the new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open where Winn Dixie closed on Palm Trail Plaza on Military Trail. The store is seeking to hire 90 people now. Applicants are invited to the hiring center at 1133 S. Military Trail in Deerfield Beach, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. No mention of pay, but there are other incentives.
As store manager Debbie Martorano points out, Walmart’s extensive benefit program is available to eligible full- and part-time associates. It provides health benefits including health-care coverage with no lifetime maximum. It offers a matching 401(k) for contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, as well as discounts on general merchandise for store associates, a stock purchase program and company-paid life insurance.
“Walmart provides good jobs with opportunities for career growth and we look forward to talking with candidates who are interested in joining our store’s team,” said Martorano in a press release.
Despite it’s expansive footprint behind the fence, the storeis smaller than the conventional Walmart. One of 500 so-called Neighborhood Market stores opening nationwide by fiscal 2016, it focuses less on offering a little of everything for next to nothing to offering items important to a specific area.
In Visalia, Calif., for example, the Neighborhood Market store offers fresh produce and meats and dairy products, prepared foods and a Grab-and-Go section with rotisserie chicken and sides. And it also stocks a full line of household supplies, health and beauty aids, a pharmacy and organic items.
The company claims to be the first major retailer to facilitate purchases without the need for banking services, or a credit, debit or prepaid card. A free Site-to-Store computer-ordering service allows people to order online from and have items delivered to a Walmart store for pickup. They can pay with cash at time of pickup instead of with Paypal or credit card.
Opening this summer, just nine miles from an existing store on Hillsboro Boulevard, it is hiring full and part-time workers now , according to Martorano, for positions throughout the new grocery store, including for supervisory positions. Applications also are being taken on line, at .
