Traffic on the busy Interstate 595 expressway was disrupted Monday after a gasoline tanker carrying 9,000 gallons rolled over onto a grass median after it was sideswiped by another vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The semi-tractor trailer was headed west, east of I-95, near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when it was struck and then veered into the median before overturning on its right side.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of I-595 were closed for several hours, disrupting traffic in and out of Port Everglades, which is the main distribution point for petroleum products in South Florida.

In the meantime, workers pumped gasoline from the tanker to another truck. On social media, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said a small fuel leak had been secured by its HazMat team.

By evening, all the fuel was off-loaded from the rolled tanker, and crews were working to put the trucker upright.

No injuries were reported.
