Shutt is an American Chief Meteorologist currently working for WUSA Channel 9 in Washington, D.C, and a weather forecaster for WHUR-FM. He also worked for WFMY-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he was a weekend weather anchor. Prior to WFMY, Topper was the weekday weather anchor for WTVK-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1984 to 1987.
His first broadcasting was as a weather producer and substitute weather anchor for CNN in Atlanta from 1981 to 1984. He started forecasting the weather in the fifth grade. He graduated high school from Landon School in Bethesda and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in history from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
He also earned the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for both television and radio in 1988. Topper filled in for Mark McEwen and Craig Allen on the CBS network’s “CBS This Morning” program from 1994 to 2000. He also co-founded Automated Weather Source back in 1992, a company that places automated weather stations in elementary schools throughout the Metro Area.
