The three-level Bounty lounge at the Holiday Inn on Glades Road in Boca Raton is gone. Its replacement is Club Asia, frequented by patrons who range in age from 25 to 40.
There is no apparent reason for the new club’s name – no ethnic theme, no foreign flavor. This is a modern dance club with an excellent sound system, three floors of seating, five regular bars and one serving only shooters, one pool table, pulsating music and a dance floor able to accommodate 100 people with ease.
A red carpet leads from the rear parking lot to the nightspot’s entrance. Full-bodied men wearing black pants and white shirts are everywhere. These employees look as if they were hired on the basis of their muscular development.
From 9 to 11 p.m. the night I was there (a Friday), drinks were included in the admission price – as long as guests didn’t seek table service and were open to standing by the bar as they sipped their beverages. Visitors who preferred seating at one of the cloth-covered tables were expected to pay the $3.50 usually charged for a well-brand cocktail or $5.25 for a glass of Kendall-Jackson chardonnay. No food service was available.
Club Asia changes its musical complexion according to the night of the week. On Cool World Tuesdays, the disc jockey plays funk, ’80s retro and trash disco; Gotham City Thursdays bring progressive, alternative music; Escape Fridays introduce high energy Top 40 dance music. From 9 to 11 p.m. each of these evenings, there is an open bar. On Ladies Night Saturdays, women receive complimentary cocktails, free admission, roses and champagne until 11 p.m. The music alternates between Top 40 hits and high energy house.
This Sunday is special because it’s the grand opening of Nectar, advertised as “a journey into vocal house [music).”Shots will be $1 all night, and there will be an open premium bar until midnight and a space-age light show by Light Factor.
