Smash Ultimate's first Japanese tier list dropped Thursday, giving the U.S. its first glimpse of how players are approaching the game overseas. Smash pro Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman shared the list to Twitter, sparking debate about character placements.
Smash Ultimate Japanese Tier List
The tier list includes nearly every character in the game, notably leaving Mii Fighters off the list and lumping all three Pokemon Trainer pokemon into a single character. It was compiled by the players Rain and Shogun, and sorts fighters into five tiers. Here's how the list shakes out:
S Tier
Inkling, Mega Man, Pichu, Zero Suit Samus, Daisy, Peach, Captain Olimar, Greninja, Chrom, Shulk, Fox, Wolf, Cloud, Lucina, and Marth
A Tier
Pikachu, Meta Knight, Ness, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Richter, Simon, Pit, Roy, Ike, R.O.B., Pac-Man, Wario, Link, Young Link, Toon Link, Zelda, Palutena, Ken, Dr. Mario
B Tier
Snake, Diddy Kong, Mewtwo, Bayonetta, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Villager, Rosalina, Ice Climbers, Sheik, Pokemon Trainer, Luigi, King Dedede, Sonic, Ryu, Dark Pit, Robin, Corrin
C Tier
Gannondorf, Falco, King K. Rool, Isabelle, Lucas, Samus, Dark Samus, Bowser, Mario
D Tier
Kirby, Incineroar, Wii Fit Trainer, Ridley, Little Mac, Mr. Game & Watch, Duck Hunt Dog, Bowser Jr.
These opinions are mostly speculative, as very few tournaments have taken place to test these tier lists.
