His hit TV show may be long gone, but comedian Jerry Seinfeld still is in demand.
Seinfeld’s performance Oct. 30 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is expected to be the big seller this season.
Kravis subscribers already got first pick of the seats, but the rest of the public will have an early opportunity to buy tickets to the show. On Saturday, the Kravis Center is conducting its public ticket sale day for the 2004-2005 season, which kicks off next month. It’s a chance to buy tickets to Kravis-sponsored acts on a per-event basis. The box office opens at 8:30 a.m.
Last year, the public ticket sale drew about 350 people to the box office, 466 online orders and about 1,300 phone calls.
Technical support will be present Saturday to iron out any bumps, because last year there were problems processing some online orders, Kravis officials said.
Officials are expecting a healthy turnout again this year.
“There’s so much excitement this season,” said Brian Bixler, a spokesman for the Kravis Center. “We have a lineup of popular comedians this year [including George Carlin and Joan Rivers]. With the election and the war, people are looking for some light fare, and we have plenty of it.”
Based on early orders by Kravis subscribers, other acts expected to sell quickly are the Moiseyev Dance Company, named after the former ballet master of the Bolshoi Ballet, on Jan. 14; and Australian singers the Ten Tenors on March 5.
Also popular among subscribers are the Broadway musical Fosse on Nov. 8 and the “Adults At Leisure Series,” which features matinee performances by the Glenn Miller Orchestra on Jan. 13, and Charo, the Latin bombshell famous for her trademark “cuchi-cuchi” wiggle, on March 2.
This season, Kravis Center officials have spent more money advertising public ticket sale day because Hurricane Frances delayed the mailing of season brochures to nonsubscribers, Bixler said.
To draw more patrons, the Kravis Center is offering merchandise giveaways on Saturday, with a special guest from Sesame Street on hand to award tickets to Sesame Street Live next month, Bixler said.
