Grandview Prep, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, made quick work of Boynton Beach 82-45 Wednesday night in the finals of the Boca Holiday Tournament to remain unbeaten at 12-0.
The Pride put up 51 first-half points and led 51-31 by the intermission. Grandview Prep upped its advantage to more than 30, 68-37, on a driving basket by senior guard Juwan Frazier with 3:30 left in the third period.
Grandview Prep senior Jack Marcelin scored 15 points and was named the MVP of the tournament. Shawn Occeus, who is headed to Northeastern, tossed in 16 points for the Pride, Jacob Schner had 14, Matt Schner 12 and Frazier 11.
“After a huge emotional win [over Wellington Tuesday in the semifinals] to come back today and execute right from the very beginning and play defense is a credit to our team,” Pride coach Joe Dawson said.
Steve Simplice led Boynton Beach (8-5) with 13 points.
“I think the big difference was, even though [Marcelin] played as well as he did, the senior guard [Frazier] made the difference,” Boynton Beach coach Ken Mitchell said. “We couldn’t trap him. We are a trapping team.”
Grandview Prep jumped out to a 13-4 first-quarter lead. All five Pride starters had scored by the 4:46 mark. Junior Matt Schner hit three 3-pointers as GP led 28-19 after one quarter.
Grandview Prep had four scorers in double figures by halftime: Matt Schner 12, Jacob Schner 11, Occeus 10 and Marcelin 10.
Wellington, the defending Class 8A state champion, won the third-place game 74-68 over Boca Raton.
Alex Dieudonne led Wellington (11-3) with 24 points and Trent Frazier added 22. Boca is now 8-5.
