Nintendo has just rolled out the latest update for the Nintendo Switch, dubbed 17.0.0. This update is reported to improve the stability of the console by implementing “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience”, as reported by Nintendo on their official blog.
However, data miner OatmealDome, known for his detailed analysis of each update, has delved deeper into the latest update and listed out the changes in an X post.
OatmealDome pointed out that "pretty much every system component was updated," new error code messages were added, a number of Home menu messages were changed, GUI files were changed, and time zone data was updated.
Other than that, here’s what I can obviously see:
- New error code messages were added.

- Various HOME menu messages were changed. A bunch of its GUI files were also changed for whatever reason.
- Time zone data was updated.
The patch also covered changes to the banned word list, adding words such as ‘thot’ and ‘reeee’ in all languages.
[Nintendo Switch Firmware Update]
17.0.0 made some changes to the bad words lists.
“thot” and “reeee” were banned in all languages.
Various censor-evading slang for testicles in Japanese were blocked.
Other offensive terms were added for all languages as well.

Other banned words include ‘Nazi’, ‘slave’, ‘KKK’, ‘ACAB’, ‘COVID’, and more.
While this seems to be a significant system update, the visible changes and enhancements appear to be relatively minimal and will not impact your gameplay experience.
