Cornell Café

A three-month $150,000 renovation of this 2-decade-old pan-Asian café, which previously was named best museum restaurant by national and local outlets, has infused a sense of colorful renewal.

The handrail of the enticing terrace was lowered for a better view of the serene gardens, and the awning was extended for additional shade. Lime chairs pop amid the new furniture. Inside, platinum chairs create a sleek feel with bamboo-accented walls, black-and-white garden photography and soft lighting.

“The Board of Trustees embarked on a capital project to address the growing demands for a café redesign to accommodate the café’s ever-increasing popularity,” says Bonnie LeMay, Morikami administrator. “The proprietors of the Cornell Café, Christy and Fu Chen, were major donors and are thrilled to be able to enhance the culinary experience.”

New selections are spicy tuna bowl ($10.95), sushi sashimi bento box ($16.95) and vegetarian bento box ($13.95). Seasonal specials will be introduced too.

Lunch is served daily, except Mondays, but a $15 museum admission is required.
