Len Dawson Biography

Len Dawson is a former American football quarterback for the American Football League and National Football League. He played for the American Football League for 19 seasons with the Charter of Kansas City Chiefs. Dawson also served for the Kansas City Chiefs as the color analyst between 1985 to 2017.

Furthermore, He started his career in broadcasting while he was still playing for the Chiefs as a sports director for KMBC-TV in Kansas City. Currently, Len is still an active member of the community and puts much of his energy into charitable activities. Additionally, Dawson has helped in raising money, especially those that aim in helping needy children. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1992.

Len led the Chiefs to the three championships of 1962, 1966, and 1969 in the American Football League. He also led the Franchise to its first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl IV, where he was awarded the game’s MVP Award.

Furthermore, Dawson earned the honors of representing AFL in Super Bowl I after leading the Chiefs to a record of 11-2-1 and a win-over of 31-7 over the Buffalo Bills in the AFL Championship Game.

The Super Bowl was the first championship game between AFL and their rivals, NFL. He also participated in Super Bowl IV shortly after his dramatic comeback in the 1969 season with Kansa City after suffering from a knee injury. Super Bowl IV was the last game that was played by AFL Team.

Len started his football career as a Quarterback in 1957. He has played for Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Texans, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the three teams, Dawson played in number 16. Throughout his football career of  18 years, Len played as a Quarterback for position Number 16.
