League of Legends MMO release date is on the minds of many after Riot Games announced the upcoming release.
Riot Games has long been known for its flagship game League of Legends along with its various worldwide esports tournaments of the game. But Riot has broadened its portfolio to multiple projects in the past a couple of years. The latest project announced by Riot's VP of IP and Entertainment, Greg Street, via Twitter is an MMO based on the League of Legends IP.
I have news!
My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need!
Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.
PS We’re hiring

League of Legends MMO Release Date: When is it?
Street followed the announcement with a series of tweets discussing the criteria of developers Riot plans to hire for the project, how to apply for the role, and the expectation that fans should have regarding the MMO project.
In one particular tweet, he mentioned that new roles for the project will likely appear in Riot's website starting in Jan. 2021. It is safe to say that the project is still in its early development phase. Fans will need to be patient to learn its release date as there is not enough information on that yet. As a comparison, the development of the popular MMORPG game, World of Warcraft, took roughly 4-5 years, including extensive testing.
Riot Games has been busy branching out in the past two years with the launching and development of various titles. Teamfight Tactics was launched in 2019 for both PC and mobile gamers, followed by League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, Valorant, and LoL Esports Manager in 2020. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is scheduled to release in 2021. Aside of the MMO project, Riot is also working on Project L, a fighting game, and Project F, an action role-playing, hack and slash game.
