Larry Murphy Career
He used to work at Fox Sports Detroit as an alternate color analyst for the Detroit Red Wings, he had other roles aside from being a Color commentator his duties for the Red Wings’ west coast road trips in place of Mickey Redmond, also he shared this duty with previous teammate Pat Verbeek where they would alternate road trips from 2003 to 2006.
Larry left his job as a broadcaster to become a scout for the Red Wings and He took over full-time on West Coast road trips after the 2005–06 NHL season. He started contributing to pregames, post games as well as intermissions in which he does not broadcast as a studio analyst in 2006.
He began working at Fox Sports Detroit as a “Between the Benches” reporter during the 2007–08 season when Mickey Redmond was broadcasting and when Mickey had surgery to get rid of a tumor on his lung, Larry filled in for him. On February 14, 2019, it was announced, that he would come back on Fox Sports Detroit for the remainder of the 2018–19 season as a studio analyst for the Red Wings.
He became the winner of back-to-back Stanley Cup championships, in both 1991 and 1992 he got the first two with Pittsburgh then later in both 1997 and 1998 with Detroit. Additionally, in his first year of eligibility, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
