SUNRISE — Too many trees can be too much of a good thing along Sunset Strip, according to one local businessman who has suggested that the city be careful in its landscaping plans.
“If the trees block the buildings, it is going to hurt the businesses,” Irwin Harlem said on Thursday.
He owns commercial property in the area to be landscaped.
The city is planning $750,000 in new landscaping to improve the looks of the Sunset Strip Ball Park and commercial area between Northwest 64th and 67th avenues.
Drawings are being circulated in the area showing the landscaping improvements.
Harlem owned Village Hardware on Sunset Strip for 19 years and still owns the property the store sits on.
“Coral Springs is where they put a beautiful building, then plant so many trees that you can’t see it,” he told commissioners at meeting last week.
“I hope we don’t have that same problem here,” Harlem said.
Commissioners agreed that the landscaping design should not harm local businesses.
