On Nov. 5, 2017, Juan "Hungrybox" DeBiedma won first place at Smash Summit 5, thereby all but confirming himself to be the best Super Smash Bros. Melee player in the world. He defeated all possible contenders, including fellow top six player William "Leffen" Hjelte.

Hot off his win, Hbox took to Twitch to celebrate with his fans. During the stream, he called out Leffen for smack talking before the tournament. Hbox reveled in the sound beating he had dished out, declaring that the game he lost was a fluke, and that he had achieved a "moral 4-0" against the Swede.

Leffen was quick to respond in kind. On Twitter, he sarcastically congratulatedd Hungrybox on his win for this year before writing "See you in 2018 b***h." He also attacked what he called Hungrybox's "awful off camera personality."

The call-outs from each player manage to perfectly fit the roles each is given in the Melee community. Both are frequently painted as the villains of MeleeHungrybox for his methodical gameplay, and Leffen for his abrasive personality.

and yeah hbox winning doesnt make his awful off camera personality any better. But congrats, you got this year.
See you in 2018 bitch.

Even their specific insults align with these archetypes: Hungrybox insulted Leffen's play, while Leffen went straight for Hungrybox's personality. The feud seems balanced precariously on the edge of becoming real hatred between the players.

The two competitors may have to wait until 2018 to settle the dispute in game, as neither is slated to attend anything before Genesis 5 in January. Make sure to tune in then to see who will back up their words with play, and who will claim the trophy at the first super major of the year.
