Pines Ice Arena’s Fall/Winter Youth Hockey League drew to a close Jan. 22-23 with titles decided in four age divisions.

The Ice Dogs won the Mite field, the Critters claimed the Squirt title, the Hurricanes are the Pee-wee champs and, in an upset, the last-place Bruins earned top honors in the Bantam Division.

In the Mite final the Ice Dogs defeated the first-place Coyotes 3-2. Defenseman Ronnie Walters scored the game-winner with 4:40 remaining, assisted by Cameron Rasco. The scoring was rounded out by Kyle Kent and Rasco, with Devon Rodriguez and Timothy Kent each recording an assist. Goalie Max Dorfman played a strong game, shutting out the Coyotes in the second period.

Nikola Roy and Alex Mandel scored for the Coyotes, with Thomas Melfi and Roy picking up assists.

The Ice Dogs defeated the Mitey Marlins 3-2 in a shootout to advance to the final. Kyle Kent scored the winning goal and also had an assist during regulation. The Ice Dogs’ scoring was rounded out by Rodriguez and Rasco, with Rasco also assisting on Rodriguez’s goal.

The Ice Dogs also include Eric Beilin, Sam Dorfman and Ryan Kenny. Coach Andrew Dorfman is assisted by Douglas Kent.

Justin Goldman scored both Mitey Marlins’ goals.

In the other Mite semifinal, the Coyotes defeated the fourth-place Stingers 8-1. The division leaders were led by Christopher DeCarlo’s four goals. Roy scored twice, while Valentin Sverdlov and Tait Aptakin each added a goal.

Assists went to Skye Reese (2), Mandel (2), Sverdlov, Melfi and Aptakin.

In the Squirt final, the Critters defeated the Puck Hounds 6-1. Ryan Sanders recorded a hat trick and one assist to lead the way. Alfonso Diaz, Jessica Brennan and Casey Chayet also scored, while Michael Heda was solid in net for the win.

Chase Priskie scored the Puck Hounds’ goal, assisted by Nicole Koutsodendris.

The Critters had led their division all season, but were nearly upset in the semifinals, where they managed a 5-4 win over the fourth-place Stampeders.

The Stampeders trailed 4-1 early in the third period, but then outscored the Critters 3-1 in a rally ignited by Aidan Hicks. Zachary Weinger followed up with a goal and then Hicks made it 5-4, completing his hat trick with 11.8 seconds remaining.

The Critters were led by Chayet’s two goals. Their scoring was rounded out by Daniel Harris, Diaz and Sanders, with Harris scoring the game-winner.

Assists went to Kevin Cigala, Zack Healy and Brennan, while Heda recorded the win.

In the other Squirt semifinal, the Puck Hounds advanced at the expense of the Sabres. Their 6-4 win was fueled by David Eisler and Priskie with two goals apiece. Matthew Arnold and Koutsodendris also scored, while assists were recorded by Arnold (2), Justin Sibole (2), Michael Cooper and Priskie.

The Sabres were led by Sebastian Porras and Zachary Haber, each with one goal and two assists. Mason Kohn also scored.

The Critters also include Ryan Crozier, Cam Delisle, Jordan Feld, Cody Reiff and Tristan Trainer.

Coaches Bobby Reiff and Jack Heda are assisted by Brad Chayet.

The Hurricanes sealed the Pee-wee title with a 2-0 win over Team U.S.A. Adam Lebowitz scored both goals, with the game-winner coming on a power play.

The Hurricanes had dominated their division from the start, yet nearly saw their season ended by the fourth-place Bruins, who came up only a goal short in the semifinals.

The game was scoreless until midway through the second period when Tyler Goldberg connected with Lebowitz. The Bruins’ Matthew Margol quickly answered, converting a pass from Bobby Higgins to make it 1-1.

With 1:16 left in the period, Aaron Smith scored the go-ahead goal, with assists to Lebowitz and Justin Caouette. Late in the third period, Lebowitz struck again, potting the game-winner off a feed from Jacob Solomon.

Higgins would add another Bruins’ goal with seconds remaining, but the ‘Canes held on to earn a 3-2 win and a ticket to the final.

In the other semifinal, Team U.S.A. defeated the Manta Rays 9-1. Sean Murphy recorded a hat trick and one assist to lead the way. Goals were added by Spencer Babcock (2), Sherman Lovett (2), Sam Cohen and Marc Bernstein.

Assists went to Guy Magzianou (3), Colin Yoskowitz (2), Roni Magzianou (2), Lovett (2), Hunter Harrison, Alex Peller and Jake Kauffman.

Eric Hutt scored for the Manta Rays, assisted by Abraham Orellanes and Brandon Conroy.

The Hurricanes also include Wyatt Blatt, Guy DeSanctis, Michael Ferguson, Alex Getz, Christopher Gilmartin, Stephanie Koutsodendris, Andrew McNutt, Anthony Rocco-Hoffman, Dave St. Pierre, Harrison Schultz, Yves Siroit and Aaron Smith.

In the Bantam final the Bruins defeated the Blackhawks 7-4 fueled by Jeff Landau’s hat trick. Kenneth Cigalotti and Daniel Dominguez added two goals apiece, while assists went to Richard Alvarez, Lorena Rozo, Chris Mulligan, Tyler Bienvenu and Cigalotti.

The Blackhawks’ scoring was evenly distributed among Steph LaBarge, Patrick McDonald, Chad Gallagher and Mikael Ericsson. McDonald and LaBarge had three assists apiece for the Blackhawks.

The Bruins’ heady run started in the semifinals when they came out of the division cellar to defeat the first-place Kings 6-3. The Kings led 3-2 after the first period but were shut out for the remainder of the game while the Bruins scored four unanswered goals.

The Bruins’ defense was anchored by Michael Haupt, who was outstanding in goal throughout the playoffs.

The Bruins were led by Kenneth Cigalotti’s hat trick, while Jeff Landau scored twice and had two key assists. Assists also went to Chris Mulligan and Richard Alvarez.

Taylor Loe, Adam Yokell and Mark Kornja scored for the Kings, with Daniel Lopez recording an assist.

The Blackhawks advanced with a 1-0 win over the Vipers. Steph LaBarge scored the game-winner.

The Bruins also include Tyler Bienvenu, Nicholas Diorio, Daniel Dominguez, Alez Getz, Glen Hudson, David Levy, Lorena Rozo and Christopher Veron.

Registration is under way for the Winter/Spring League. The Mite through Bantam divisions will begin their season the week of Feb. 21 and conclude with championships May 25-26.

The Midget Division will begin March 7 and continue through May 26. This modified schedule is designed to accommodate the high school hockey season.

Cooper City Optimist Roller Hockey League 6-under Division results

HOT SHOTS 6, TEAM U.S.A. 2: Michael Cormany, Beau Goble and Zachary Sweeney scored for the Hot Shots. Adrian Vartan and Michael Aronson scored for Team U.S.A.

TEAM U.S.A. 4, HOT SHOTS 4: Evan Norton scored twice to lead U.S.A. Kyle Norton and Andrew Rothschild also scored, while assists went to Kyle Pollock, Alexander Gilchrist and Norton.

Hot Shots’ Adrian Vartan and Beau Goble scored two goals apiece, with Zachary Sweeney picking up two assists.

HOT SHOTS 5, TEAM U.S.A. 2: Hot Shots’ goals were by Rafe Batchelor (2), Andrew Hamilton (2) and Michael Cormany, with Adrian Vartan recording an assist. Hamilton’s first goal of the game was also his first career goal.

REGISTRATIONS

ATOM LEAGUE: Pines Ice Arena’s Atom League, a developmental hockey program for boys and girls ages 4-6, is designed to introduce children to the game of ice hockey in a safe, supervised environment.

Games will be played under the supervision of league director Alex Lecourt. Coaches are on the ice during games to help players learn game basics and team play, while improving their skating skills.

Candidates must possess some skating ability and will be evaluated on an individual basis. While the standard age range is 4-6, exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis as determined by skating ability.

The Atom League Winter/Spring season began in early January, but latecomers are welcome. All games and practices are at 7:45 a.m. Sundays.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN CLASSIC: The inaugural Florida Southern Classic, an ice hockey tournament for youth through adult teams, is Feb. 18-20 at the Lakeland Center.

In addition to traditional youth categories, divisions will include High School, College and Adult. The entry fee is $450 per team, including a three-game guarantee.

ST. PADDY’S DAY TOURNEY: Limited openings remain for teams wishing to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Hockey Classic, which has been expanded to two separate weekends to accommodate multiple age divisions and ability levels.

The events will be March 11-13 and March 18-20 at Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex in Chesapeake, Va.

March 11-13 will feature competition for the Mite, Squirt, Pee-wee, 10- and 12-under Girls’ divisions, while March 18-20 is reserved for Bantam, 16- and 18-under Midget, and 14-, 16- and 19-under Girls’ divisions.

The entry fees are $850 for Bantam, Midget 16- and 18-under, and Girls’ 16- and 19-under; $800 for Pee-wee and Girls’ 12- and 14-under; $750 for Squirt and Girls’ 10-under; $700 for Mites.
