Delray Beach teen J.W. Johnson recently picked up his third professional pickleball championship at the USA Pickleball Newport Beach Championships.
The 19-year-old won gold medals in Pro Men’s Singles, Pro Mixed Doubles with his sister Jorga Johnson, 15, and Pro Men’s Doubles with Dylan Frazier, 20. It was the third consecutive title for J.W. Johnson and Frazier. Together, they have won six professional championships.
J.W. Johnson has won pro triple crowns at the APP Delray Beach Open (March), APP South Carolina Open (April) and the Newport Beach Championships (July).
He said he puts in the time.
“I usually work out five to six hours a day,” J.W. Johnson said following his match on ESPN+. “I usually try and work on some cat-and-mouse stuff with the singles.
“It is amazing to have the whole family here,” he said.
He teamed with his sister to defeat Mary Brascia and Federico Staksrud, 11-8 and 11-6, for the gold in mixed doubles. J.W. Johnson also topped Staksrud, 11-8 and 11-2, for the singles title and partnered with Frazier to win the doubles title over Julian Arnold and Hayden Patriquin, 11-3 and 11-2.
