Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
When you think about students who have a strong desire to be the best, think about my students. They are inspiring individuals who come from places that aren't always ideal in Youngstown, OH. Adversity is the foundation of the life they stand on, but they persevere.
Our students struggle with poverty, homelessness, employment, transportation, and language barriers but in spite of all of this, they show up to school.
Our school administrators and teachers work very hard to try to make sure our students receive everything they need. Every student receives a free breakfast and lunch daily. In addition to providing the basic needs of our students, we try to incorporate a variety of social-emotional interventions on a daily basis. This helps my students with the various challenges they face daily such as self-esteem, bullying and communicating their emotions.
I am requesting deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and healthy snacks for students who need them. They will be able to get these items confidentially through our Dean of Students.
