Before hosting a podcast, Belden was working and had enlisted as a volunteer in September 2016 to serve with the People’s Protection Units (YPG) during the Syrian Civil War.
After his arrival in Syria in October 2016, He underwent training at the YPG’s Academy where he met We3stern volunteers such as Lucas Chapman and Tommy Mørck.
Following his graduation from the academy, Belden was assigned as a machine gunner on a makeshift tank for the Raqqa campaign. While volunteering in Syria, his unit assisted in the capture of Tal Saman. Additionally, many refugees fled from the town and also sought protection from YPG front line.
