His first work in America was as a petrol pump attendant at Exxon. Even though life was difficult for them, Binh was thankful that he would end up in a country where any of his ambitions may come true.
Soon after, he learned the business, and his wife, who also learned English, assisted him in growing the business. In 1977, the family relocated to Houston, Texas. Binh began selling insurance for a business called Washington National Life Insurance there. The couple purchased their first convenience business, Circle K Convenience.
They bought and sold nearly 100 comparable businesses five years later. The family then ventured into the real estate sector for the family. He aspired to create a bank because he believed many Vietnamese refugees were less educated than him, and he wanted to share his understanding of the American financial system with them. He felt obligated to help other Vietnamese or minorities learn about finance and how to borrow money so that they could expand and scale their enterprises after establishing the bank.
