Barry Star celebrates 30 years as owner of Fort Lauderdale’s Hot Dog Heaven on Thursday.
“I won’t do much except give out customer appreciation cards,” he says. “You buy 12 hot dogs and the 13th dog is free.”
He only hands out the cards during the months of June, to mark his anniversary, and December, in celebration of the holidays. The restaurant is closed for vacation for most of the month of July.
A hot dog with all of the Chicago-style toppings is $2.80. Star serves Vienna pure beef hot dogs on poppy seed rolls. With seating for just 30 people indoors and out, eating at Hot Dog Heaven is an elbow-to-elbow experience I recommend.
