After a lengthy break from live-action Star Wars content, fans were given a new series dedicated to iconic franchise bounty hunter Boba Fett. The series saw Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) rise from the Sarlacc pit and eventually take over Jabba the Hutt’s palace as the new daimyo of Mos Espa alongside his assassin partner Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). Not everyone was a fan of his rule, and Boba Fett ended up building an army of bounty hunters to fight against the Pyke, who have personal ties to Boba Fett’s past. While the series certainly struggled to keep the spotlight on its titular bounty hunter, especially towards the end of the season, it still managed to deliver some amazing surprises.

From the return of some familiar faces to some amazing live-action debuts that tie back to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Book of Boba Fett certainly carved an interesting path for the Star Wars universe. There were plenty of moments that got fans talking, and now the whole internet is theorizing what could be in store for The Mandalorian as its third season approaches.
Boba Fett’s New Tribe
After escaping the Sarlacc pit, Boba Fett found himself initially a prisoner of a Tusken Raider tribe on Tatooine before gaining their respect and going through some surprising growth.
Not only did Boba Fett move through the ranks of the Tuskens, but he gained lessons from them that helped him build a strong connection with them and inspired his ruling demeanor. It was triumphant to see a loner bounty hunter like Boba Fett emerge as a stronger leader in helping the Tuskens perform a train robbery, and it's crushing to see them wiped out by the Pykes.
Krrsantan: A New Fan Favorite?
While there were plenty of notable characters and cameos throughout The Book of Boba Fett, the biggest breakout star was undoubtedly Krrsantan (Carey Jones), a Wookie bounty hunter.
The black-furred Wookie instantly caught everyone’s attention the first time he appeared on-screen, and his appearance is pretty substantial given that we haven’t seen other notable Wookie characters other than Chewbacca. His tough-looking exterior is matched by his brutal strength, so it’s no wonder that Boba Fett eventually made him a part of his army.
So Much Modding
Although Tatooine is mostly a desolate desert planet, it’s surprisingly a technological hot spot given all the cyberpunk tech and modifications happening.
The Mods, a gang of cyberpunk youths with candy-colored hoverbikes, were one of the more divisive aspects of The Book of Boba Fett because of how much stuck out visually. However, it seems like cyber-enhancements are going to be a major aspect going forward given how a local marshal seems to be on the verge of getting the same enhancements as Fennec Shand.
The Return of The Mandalorian
It wasn’t too much of a shock to see Star Wars’ shiny new bounty hunter The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) return here, but it’s unlikely that anyone expected The Mandalorian to have the return that he did.

For better or worse, the fifth and sixth episodes completely spotlighted The Mandalorian’s story and might as well have acted as a two-part premiere for season three of The Mandalorian. His return saw the Darksaber be given more backstory and his story could be leading him back to Mandalore in search of redemption.
Luke and His Baby Padawan
Once The Mandalorian said that he needed to find a friend before helping Boba Fett at the end of episode five, the internet buzzed about the possibility of seeing Grogu, better known as Baby Yoda. Their prayers were answered when in the following episode, Grogu returned still learning under the guidance of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
Their bond as a legendary Jedi teaching a young padawan the way of the force is nice and all, but let’s face it, what everyone was excited about was that Grogu is now back alongside The Mandalorian as they go on new adventures together.
Ahsoka Appears Before Her Own Spinoff
Well, if The Mandalorian was going to come across Grogu and Luke again, it was only fitting that Ashoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) also reappears before starring in her spinoff series.
While her appearance here is relatively brief compared to other surprise appearances, it provides a balanced perspective on whether Grogu will stay with Luke or go with The Mandalorian. It’s nice to hear some nods to her time with Luke’s father Anakin and her presence certainly got fans excited to see her return soon.
A Desert Duel Ends in Disaster
Although he may not have Boba Fett’s armor anymore, we find that Marshal Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) still patrols the deserts of Tatooine and find something more dangerous than he bargained for.
The return of Vanth would’ve been a big enough surprise for fans, but him running into notorious Duros bounty hunter Cad Bane (voiced by Corey Burton) heightened the surprise even more. Sure, it doesn’t end well for Vanth as Bane shoots him down, but the finale’s mid-credits scene shows him chilling in a Bacta tank and possibly receiving some cyber-enhancements like Fennec Shand. So, maybe we’ll see him again soon.
Fan Favorite Clone Wars Character Enters the Fray
Easily the biggest surprise of The Book of Boba Fett was the live-action introduction to a fan-favorite antagonist from Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the form of bounty hunter Cad Bane.

It’s amazing how Bane was so beautifully realized in live-action as his blue-skinned exterior matched the perfectly rugged voice provided by Burton. He served as the perfect kind of notable antagonist this series desperately needed and fans were thrilled to see him finally come to life. Also, don’t be too upset about his supposed death at the hands of Boba Fett. Frankly, it’s tough to imagine they let a fan favorite go out like this and his life support sounded like it still had some juice in it.
An Epic Battle for Tatooine
For the most part, it felt like The Book of Boba Fett was surprisingly light on action, but its epic finale battle between Boba Fett and the Pykes made up for it immensely.
It had everything that Star Wars fans could want and had some swift direction from Robert Rodriguez. Boba Fett rode a Rancor into battle, Grogu used the force to save The Mandalorian, the people of Freetown showed up to avenge their fallen Marshal, and there was an epic showdown between Boba Fett and Bane. What more could anyone ask for?
An Unclear Direction
After the big finale battle, we surprisingly don’t get much to go on for what the future of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian will entail.
The Mandalorian’s story has some possible directions towards Mandalore, but Boba Fett’s story feels like it ends here, which is just unusual for Star Wars. Perhaps Bane will return or that mid-credits scene signifies that Vanth will fight Boba Fett for his armor, but it’s unclear where things are heading.
